Duties and Responsibilities

The United Nations Information Centers (UNICs) belong to the Information Centres Services (ICS), Campaigns and Country Operations (CCOD) of the Department of Global Communication (DGC). The UNICs are the principal sources of information about the United Nations system in the countries where they are located. They are also responsible for promoting greater public understanding of, and support the aims and activities of, the United Nations by disseminating information on the work of the Organization to people everywhere, especially in developing countries. The Department of Global Communications internship is for two months with an opportunity for extension, pending on the needs of the department and availability of intern. The internship is UNPAID and full-time. Interns work five days per week (35 hours) under The supervision of a staff member in the department or office to which they are assigned. Responsibilities Following the instructions and under the supervision of the National Information Officer (NIO) the responsibilities may include but are not limited to: 1) Digital content support for social media platforms: • Assist in the production of animations, cards, and other engaging visual assets for UN Bolivia’s social media accounts. • Editing videos and producing short video content for social media and websites, including preparing and embedding subtitles in Spanish or English. • Assist in streaming UNIC La Paz’s audiovisual assets by categorizing existing assets and compiling new materials and resources from UN System’s sources. • Support in the development of digital campaigns using social media, websites and email outreach. • Collects and produces digital content, including in local languages, different formats and/or platforms (e.g. infographic, videos, etc.), including the proposing of topics, undertaking research, writing drafts, obtaining clearances, editing copy, and coordinating design approval, translation procedures and distribution. • Editing videos and producing short video content for social media and websites, including preparing and embedding subtitles in English and Spanish. 2) Desk research support and mapping of entry opportunities for social media: • Compilation of recent data, figures and key messages from UN System’s reports and publications related to the Agenda 2030 for Sustainable Development, climate change, humanitarian action and human rights. • Support in the compilation of basic information for use in the preparation and production of communication products/services about the UN. 3) Graphic design support: • Assist in the design of communications and outreach products, including brochures, leaflets, posters, cards, animation, and short publications. 4) Support to event management and organization: • Assist in organizing events, campaigns and public outreach activities. • Support outreach efforts with partners and the UN System in Bolivia.




Qualifications/special skills

To qualify for an internship with the United Nations Internship Programme, applicants must: a. Be enrolled in, or have completed, a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); or, b. Be enrolled in, or have completed, the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum bachelor's level or equivalent), preferably in the fields of journalism, advertising, public relations or communications. Applicants must also: -Be computer literate in standard software applications. -Have a demonstrated keen interest in the work of the United Nations and have a personal commitment to the ideals of the UN Charter. -Have a demonstrated ability to successfully interact with individuals of different cultural backgrounds and beliefs, which include willingness to try and understand and be tolerant of differing opinions and views. Applicants are not required to have professional experience for participation in the programme.




Languages

Fluency in Spanish and knowledge of English (at least read, write and translate) are required for the internship.

Interns are not financially remunerated by the United Nations. Costs and arrangements for travel, visas, accommodation and living expenses are the responsibility of interns or their sponsoring institutions. Interns who are not citizens or permanent residents of the country where the internship is undertaken, may be required to obtain the appropriate visa and work/employment authorization. Successful candidates should discuss their specific visa requirements before accepting the internship offer.
